Osteopathy was originally founded by Andrew Taylor Still in the 1870’s. This form of manual therapy was created by understanding the structures of the human body and the relationship between the structures as well as how the body has an intertwined connection from head to toe.
Classical Osteopathy is a manual form of therapy by which practitioners use different leverages to manipulate the patient’s anatomy in order to restore the 4 rivers of life (nerve, artery, vein and lymphatic). The belief is that our body including these four “rivers” give our body the ability to self heal and self regulate. The main principles in Osteopathy are that the body is a dynamic unit of function, it is designed to self heal and self regulate, it is intertwined on all levels and Osteopathic treatment is guided by the understanding of these natural principles.
I have always been passionate about health and wellness. Sports and recreation were such a large part of my childhood. This ultimately led me to Nova Scotia, earning myself a Bachelors Degree in Human Kinetics at St. Francis Xavier University. It was here that I earned the opportunity to work with the men’s football team as a student therapist, which is where my passion for rehabilitative therapy began.
I was introduced to Osteopathy in 2018 after being involved in a car accident which ultimately led to receiving osteopathic treatment myself. This form of manual therapy successfully facilitated my own body’s healing providing the relief I was seeking. Osteopathy, and its set of principles aligned with my own beliefs of what manual therapy should be.
This ultimately led me to my Osteopathic studies back home in Ontario. Here, I have completed my Masters in the Practice of Osteopathic Manipulative Sciences (M.OMSc) at the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy in Hamilton, Ontario.
Osteopathy can benefit anyone from infants to seniors because it is based in principle which is why its effectiveness still holds true today.
My goal as your practitioner is to work with your body to understand what you are experiencing and why this may be occurring. I aim to deliver gentle yet effective treatment incorporating a holistic approach rooted in Osteopathic Principles.
By improving movement, drainage and blood flow Osteopathy can improve the systems of the body by improving the environment in which your organs live. This could include digestive issues, food sensitivities, fertility issues and much more!
If you are suffering from pain or discomfort that may have happened yesterday or years ago, Osteopathy can help. By changing the body’s pattern that was developed naturally to reduce the pain you experience, Osteopathy will work to unwind the layers of compensation and get to the root cause of your pain.
By working with the entire body, Osteopathy takes into consideration all forces through the body from your head to toes, inside and out. This manual therapy can correct forces that may not be in their functional spectrum which ultimately improves movement and range of motion.
